CNN's Kelly Wallace: Emcee

Kelly Wallace is a digital correspondent and editor-at-large for CNN, focusing on family, career and work/life balance. An award-winning digital journalist and television correspondent, Wallace writes in-depth articles and socially sourced stories and does original web videos for CNN Digital's Health, Wellness and Parenting section. In addition, she appears regularly on both CNN and HLN TV. 

 

Wallace came to CNN from iVillage, where she served as chief correspondent and executive director of digital video. While there, she made headlines for scoring exclusive interviews with First Lady Michelle Obama, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Alicia Keys, Jill Biden, Dr. Oz and other newsmakers.  She also appeared regularly on TODAY and MSNBC. In 2012, Wallace received a Gracie Award for Outstanding Reporter/Correspondent.

 

Before iVillage, Wallace worked at CBS News as a general assignment reporter, where she covered stories for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and The Early Show.

Jim Steyer (founder & CEO, Common Sense Media)

James Steyer is one of the most respected experts and entrepreneurs on issues related to children’s media and education in the United States. He is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Common Sense Media, the nation’s leading non-partisan organization dedicated to improving media and technology choices for kids and families. He is also the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Center for the Next Generation.

In addition to his activities as an advocate, author, and teacher, Mr. Steyer serves regularly as an expert commentator on an assortment of national television and radio programs and hosts a weekly news feature on Kids and the Media on CBS-5 TV in San Francisco. He has frequently appeared on such shows as "Oprah," "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," "Larry King Live," "CNN National News," “Fox News” and the "CBS Early Show."

Jocelyn Brewer (Australia)

Jocelyn is a Sydney-based registered psychologist with a special interest in the psychology of technology. She has more than 13 years of experience in public education as both a high school social sciences teacher and school counsellor/psychologist.

 

In 2013, Jocelyn created Digital Nutrition™ to help guide best-practice, balanced tech use and healthy relationships with digital devices. Jocelyn is completing a Masters of Applied Science at Sydney University (where she also has a teaching role) looking into the role of self-control and mindfulness in the prevention of Problematic Internet Use.

Nicholas Provenzano

Nicholas Provenzano is a high school English teacher at Grosse Point South High School and an education blogger. He writes on his website, TheNerdyTeacher.com, Edutopia.org, as well as many other prominent educational websites. He has been featured on CNN.com, Education Week, The New York Times, and other media outlets. In 2013, he was awarded the Technology Teacher of the Year by MACUL and ISTE. Nicholas is Google Certified Innovator, Raspberry Pi Certified Educator, and a TEDEd Innovative Educator. Kayla Delzer

Kayla Delzer is a 3rd grade teacher and technology champion in North Dakota. She is a columnist for Edsurge and blogger for Edutopia, where she writes about a variety of edtech and design topics. She is also the creator of her blog, Top Dog Teaching.

 

On July 23, 2015 she delivered her first TEDx Talk, Reimagining Classrooms: Students as Leaders and Teachers as Learners. Her work with classroom redesign and flexible seating has become the standard worldwide. She was also recently selected as North Dakota’s Lead Digital Innovator by PBS. Kayla is authoring her first book for educators based on best 21st century teaching practices for digital natives, due to be published in December 2016. Diana Graber

Diana Graber is founder of CyberWise.org and CyberCivics.com, two organizations dedicated to helping adults and students learn digital citizenship and literacy skills. A long-time media producer with an M.A. in “Media Psychology & Social Change,” Graber is a recognized expert on technology's impact on human behavior, writing often for The Huffington Post and others.

 

In addition to having been an Adjunct Professor of Media Psychology at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP), Graber teaches middle school Cyber Civics classes at Journey School in Southern California, where she incubated the program. You can often find her on her mountain bike using her favorite app, Strava.

Matt Murrie

Matt Murrie is the Chief Curiosity Curator of the What If…?360 and author of The Book of What If...?. He is a former English professor and Coordinator of Innovation for the Churchill Institute for Global Engagement at Westminster College.

 

A graduate of Columbia University’s Teacher’s College graduate school, he has over a decade of teaching experience in five countries on three different continents as a public school teacher, Peace Corps volunteer, and college professor. He believes curiosity is a natural resource that can be converted into an energy powerful enough to not only power our planet, but guide it.

Joanne Sweeney-Burke & Sophie Burke (Ireland)

Joanne had Sophie at 17 years old and as a young mother familiar with the social web, she was able to navigate Sophie through her early social media years.Together they created structure, ground rules and a mutual respect for the evolving digital age.

They decided to use their own experiences to positively impact other parents, teens and tweens, teachers and mentors and developed a range of online resources and face-to-face presentation material for the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. They are now working closely with the Digital Citizenship Institute to develop learning materials for young graduates, mature professionals and employers seeking to empower their staff with skills and knowledge necessary in the digital age.

Joanne is the founder and CEO of Digital Training Institute, an Irish-based digital marketing consultancy and training business, an author and international speaker.

She is a writer for the world’s largest social media website, Social Media Examiner and hosts a weekly podcast called JSB Talks Digital and broadcasts monthly webinars on Big Marker, the world’s largest webinar community. Her book Social Media Under Investigation, Law Enforcement and the Social Web examines how police forces are using social media to aid investigations, community relations, public relations and intelligence gathering.

Sophie Burke is a final year accountancy student at the National University of Ireland, Galway and also works as a Digital Marketing Executive in the family business. She intends to complete her professional accountancy exams with international accountancy firm KPMG on graduation in 2017. She holds a certificate in cyber bullying skills from children’s charity Barnardos and is a member of Ireland’s Slingshot Academy, an organization that recognizes young people’s contribution to Irish society.

Larry Magid

Larry Magid's technology reports can be heard daily on CBS News and CBS affiliates throughout the U.S. and he has a daily tech segment on KCBS radio in San Francisco. He writes a syndicated column for the San Jose Mercury News and blogs for The Guardian,Forbes and Huffington Post. He has also been a frequent contributor to the New York Times and was, for 19 years, a syndicated columnist for the Los Angeles Times when his columns appeared in newspapers around the world, including The Washington Post.

In 1993, in an effort to save Polly Klass, Magid was the first person to post an image of a missing child online, which led to his work with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children where he now serves on its board of directors. In addition to running ConnectSafely.org, Magid founded and operates two popular Internet safety sites: SafeKids.com and SafeTeens.com.

He has written several Internet guides including, Child Safety on the Information Highway and Teen Safety on the Information Highway for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. He served on President Obama's Online Safety & Technology Working Group where he chaired the education sub-committee and wrote the education section of the report to Congress. He is on the advisory boards of the Internet Education Foundation and Family Online Safety Institute and served on the Internet Safety Technical Task Force. He is also an advisor to PBS Kids and serves on safety advisory boards for Facebook, Google and Snapchat.

Maria Zabala (Spain)

María is a Spanish journalist (and mom) with over 20 years of experience in Communications & Public Relations. Her professional focus aims to partner family & technology under a creative and safe perspective, encouraging an open conversation and gathering all stakeholders involved in education, family life and Tech.

 

She believes in being example and mentor to her kids, including all things digital. Her goal: empowering parents to feel confident about their mission in raising their children with a healthy and smart use of technology in mind.

 

 

Curran Dee

At the age of nine, Curran is the Founder & Chief Kid Officer (CKO) of DigCitKids, digital citizenship for kids by kids.  Curran is an international speaker (#DigCitSummitUK) and has also presented online at both Edcamp Global and Global Maker Day. He is a student ambassador for Buncee and has guest blogged for Angela Maiers. A regular student tweeter, he has moderated chats on digital citizenship and student voice on Twitter and has been a guest lecturer in graduate classes on digital citizenship and digital literacy.

Curran is also a TEDxYouth speaker and his talk has been used as part of professional development for educators as a way to encourage student voice, student choice and students as leaders.

By the first grade, Curran started blogging at home as a way to complete traditional assignments in school. Unfortunately, he only has digital access at home and this has inspired him to advocate for connected learning opportunities in all classrooms around the world. His wish is for digital access for all students everywhere and DigCitKids is a way to amplify student voice in K-12 classrooms. 

Sarah Thomas

Sarah Thomas is a Regional Technology Coordinator in Prince George’s County Public Schools. She is also a Google Certified Innovator and the founder of the #EduMatch movement, a project that empowers educators to make global connections across common areas of interest.  Sarah is a doctoral candidate in education at George Mason University.

Dr. Jason Ohler

Dr. Jason Ohler is a professor emeritus, speaker, writer and a lifelong digital humanist who is well known for the passion, insight, and humor he brings to his writings, projects, teaching and presentations. During the 1980s he created one of the first educational technology masters degrees for teachers in response to desktop computing that was founded on principles of digital citizenship.

 

He has been helping community members, organizations and students at all levels understand the ethical implications of being digital citizens in a world of roller coaster technological change ever since. His most recent book, 4Four Big Ideas for the Future, reflects on his 35 years in the world of educational media and innovation in order to chart a course for a future. He is first and foremost a storyteller, telling tales of the future that are grounded in the past. Dr. Ohler currently teaches in Fielding Graduate University's Media Psychology PhD program. Timmy Sullivan

Timmy Sullivan is an 18-year-old bilingual international speaker dedicated to the empowerment of students in public education through student voice. He is a freelance blogger advocating for the adoption of personalized learning in schools, as well as a public speaker for the advancement of digital citizenship in the lives of students. Fred Sagwe (Kenya)

Fred Sagwe is a Kenyan educator, teaching computer scienc in a public-sponsored school, Tabaka Boys' High School. He works part-time with the Ministry of Education Research and technology as an ICT integrator in EdTech. He offers technical support and professional development to fellow educators in both elementary and  high school as an ICT Champion and a Master /National ICT Trainer working with the digital literacy program for the 1:1 BYOD deployment.

Olivia Van Ledtje


Olivia (aka as LivBit) is a 9-year old who is smart about all things shark and hopes to be a future ichthyologist.  She is an ambassador for the Gills Club, an organization promoting girls in science through inquiry-based experiences meant to grow enthusiasm and activism for sharks.  Olivia is also a passionate advocate for books and using social media to promote student voice and audience.  She loves to tweet out messages that help kids love authors, books, and big ideas about life.  Olivia is also an accomplished ballerina and spent several weeks this summer at American Ballet Theater's Summer Intensive Program, where she connected with dancers for all over the world and found out that she is a city girl at heart.  

 

Olivia's work on LivBits has been featured all over the world, including conferences in Singapore and England.  She is so excited to be included as a voice for kids and social media and looks forward to more opportunities working with authors and organizations who share her drive to promote digital citizenship for kids.

Tiffany Shlain

Emmy-nominated filmmaker and Webby Awards Founder Tiffany Shlain has received over 70 awards and distinctions for her films and work, including being on NPR's list of  Best Commencement Speeches, Ever, and by Newsweek as “one of the women shaping the 21st Century.” She has premiered four films at Sundance, including her acclaimed feature documentary Connected: An Autoblogography about Love, Death & Technology, which The New York Times hailed as “high-tech Terry Gilliam,” and “Examining Everything From the Big Bang to Twitter.”  

 

The US State Department has also selected three of Shlain’s films including Connected to represent the U.S. at embassies around the world for their American Film Showcase. Her original series, The Future Starts Here was nominated for an Emmy in New Approaches to Arts, Lifestyle, Culture and has over 40 million views to date.

 

Tiffany is a world-renowned speaker and has been featured at institutions including Google, Harvard, NASA, and Fortune 500 companies. Tiffany was the on-air Internet expert on ABC’s Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer, is a Henry Crown Fellow of The Aspen Institute, is an advisor to The Institute for the Future, and was invited to advise then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about the Internet and technology. She has contributed articles for Harvard Business Review, Documentary Magazine and was listed by Indiewire & FastCompany for her writing on twitter. TED Conferences published her first book, titled Brain Power: From Neurons to Networks, which premiered simultaneously with the accompanying 10 min film and has been writing a quarterly newsletter called Breakfast @ Tiffany's since 1998. She runs an independent film studio + lab in San Francisco called The Moxie Institute.

 

Tiffany lives in Northern California with her husband and collaborator Ken Goldberg (an artist & professor of robotics at UC Berkeley) and their two children. Her films and work often wrestle with the good, the bad and the potential of technology. She and her family are on their 6th year unplugging each week for 24 hours as part of their “technology shabbats,” which she has written about, given talks about, and explores in many of her films.

Matt Soeth


Matt Soeth is the cofounder of #ICANHELP, a social media education and leadership development non profit for schools. In addition, he is the co-creator of iCanHelpline, the first internet helpline for schools in the US. Matt Soeth taught Video Production (CTE), English and Student Leadership in California.

 

Matt was on the board of the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA) providing leadership training and technology integration in schools. He is also an adjunct professor at the Teacher College of San Joaquin where he instructs teachers in technology and mobile applications as well as offering support to teacher interns. Matt has been recognized nationally for providing quality professional development to staff and students.
