We are knowledge workers in the Information Age. In order to maximize our potential as a knowledge worker we will need to turn all of our information into knowledge. The dilemma we face is that we are increasingly getting stuck at the information collection stage and not spending the necessary time reflecting on the information and turning it into knowledge. 

 

This is happening because information has gone from a finite amount to an infinite amount. From an evolutionary standpoint, we evolved to collect information. We are knowledge workers in the Information Age. In order to maximize our potential as a knowledge worker we will need to turn all of our information into knowledge.

What happens when there is an endless stream of information? We consume, consume, consume. This is similar to our growing obesity rates. Unhealthy food tastes better than healthy food, and most of us now have a near unlimited amount of unhealthy food options.

 

A healthy digital lifestyle is about finding a balance between information consumption and reflection, which allows the information to move to a higher level of thinking. A healthy digital lifestyle consists of less data, better information, more reflection, and mental exercise can improve your quality of thinking.  A digital diet is about finding a balance between information consumption and reflection, which allows the information to move to a higher level of thinking.
